HOW THE HECK DID YOU BECOME A DIALECT COACH?
Small Town Story at South Orange Performing Arts Center, 2018
A Little Night Music at Wagner College, 2018
Like most things, good timing and a bit of an obsession.
After taking a dialects class on a whim in college, Becca realized that she had a passion (and a knack) for learning dialects. Through the support of her teachers and the opportunity to assist on a production of Spamalot, she quickly became the go-to dialect coach among her peers.
Her experience as an actor and singer gives her an unparalleled perspective on how to balance a dialect for clarity, ease of production, and accuracy. She is especially qualified for working with singers to balance the physiological needs of pitch with the sounds of a dialect using a combination of the Estill Method, IPA, and sensation-based practice.
While she specializes in RP, Cockney, and the American Southern Dialects, she has an additional 15 dialects and accents on file, including German, French, American Midwestern, and Hawaiian Pidgin. For those she doesn't know, she can research and develop a dialect in as little as two weeks.
